Bitumen 80/100: Technical Overview

Bitumen 80/100 is defined by its precise characteristics and specifications. Beyond standard penetration testing, its grade is determined through crucial tests including viscosity, softening point, ductility, heat loss, and flash point. For both suppliers and customers, the softening point and flash point are particularly significant indicators of quality and safety.

According to the ASTM D36 method, the softening point for Bitumen 80/100 ranges from 45 to 52 °C. Its flash point, critical for handling and storage safety, is a minimum of 225 °C.

Applications of Bitumen 80/100

This grade of bitumen is primarily used in road construction projects within temperate regions. It is also suitable for producing foundational layers of asphalt and various insulation materials.

Bitumen 80/100 Composition

Bitumen 80/100’s elemental composition is approximately 88% carbon, 9% hydrogen, up to 4% sulfur, 1% nitrogen, 1% oxygen, and 2000ppm metals. Bitumen products are predominantly composed of highly condensed polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.

Packaging

Nortec supplies Bitumen 80/100 in 180 kg new steel drums and 1000 kg jumbo bags.
